Ballroom Dancing

Hello everyone,

I just had a question and I hope someone can help me. Why is it so hard to find a guy partner in ballroom dancing? I just started lessons with a new teacher and because I Left the other teachers I sort of lost my partner, I am just confused as to why some guys think that in order to dance they have to be “gay” or a sissy (sorry if anyone found that offenceive) I mean is it all guys or is it just the guys that I know?

So these are my questions:
1) Do all guys feel the same way about ballroom?
2) Dose it have to alot with age
3) If you are a guy what do you think about ballroom dancing (please be honest)

If you are age16-18 and a guy who is or wants to learn to be a ballroom dancer and you live in or near Oswego NY

ballroom dancing was once a guilty pleasure in ‘05. it seems now this year pop music has influenced the comeback of rollerskating from music videos. madonna and jessica simpson helped revive this fad straight out from the 80s. they are not the only two that are sporting this fad. the pink spiders and under the influence of giants who are both pop/rock groups also have people rollerskating in their videos. the music sounds great and it collaborates well with this revival of rollerskating.

Hey! ok so i live in a pretty small town where ballroom dance classes are offered and i really really would like to take them but i have some problems…1) I have no dance partner 2) If i would have to dance with the instructor would that be weird? 3) How many hours a week would you recommend i take dance classes? Links would be helpful if you know of examples I can watch. I tried learning about dances from videos of competition and Dancing with the Stars but they *all* look flamboyant on those. Oh and please don’t say tango, I know the tango is lovely but I just don’t get the point of those weird calf kicks so I’m not into tango. Plain and simple, I am looking for one where they dance together, it’s sexy, and there are no side by side showboating moments like on dancing with the stars, and one where the guy doesn’t have to do a bunch of sweeping arm movements that look like something a ballet dancer would do. There has to be at least one Latin ballroom dance other than tango where the guy doesn’t have to do stuff that looks effeminate or cheesy, right?

I have to buy a pair of dance shoes for the ballroom dance class I’m taking and need help choosing one. Is there a type of shoe that’s good for general ballroom AND salsa dancing? I’m a total beginner with ballroom but dance salsa regularly so I thought it’d be good to buy shoes that’s good for other forms of dance as well, in case ballroom isn’t for me. The class I’m taking is also right after a volleyball class so I’ll be in my gym clothes and I hope whatever shoe I get fits with my gym attire.
I don’t know much about dance shoes but after doing some research I think the type of shoes I’m looking for are dance sneakers…something more athletic as opposed to those formal black leather ones. Can someone please enlighten me with what you know about dance sneakers? Are they a good fit for me? Thanks in advance:)
